The Process

Clarify the Goal

Our client wanted a hands-on pull-toy design workshop series. Our goal was to share our design methodology work to the Ann Arbor community through a basic and fun introduction to a design process.

Understand the Situation

Over 5 months of communication and meetings with the library, I learned about their space, access to specific tools and materials, budget, common audience engagement, and timeline.

Bridge the Gap

By taking time to understand the library and its audience, I was able to scope the project appropriately. Because the audience was variable between workshops and could include a wide age range, we needed to create standalone workshops that would allow both children and adults to participate fully. We decided to create a 2-part series that emphasized ideation and prototyping to leverage the magazines, foam board, scissors, and scrap prototyping materials that we could access within budget. I led the development of the detailed lesson and supplies plans and activities themselves.
